OH A HUNTING WE WILL GO!

A couple weeks ago while I was working Cody called and asked if I would be willing to shoot an Elk. I sat there for a minute and thought what?? Then I just started to laugh. Are you kidding me I drew out for BIG BULL ELK? Cody's reply was yep you did.

I took hunters safety about 4 years ago so I could go if I wanted to but never in a million years did I think I would draw out for a hunt this soon. Most people put in for years (like 9 to 12 years). Each year you put in you earn a point. So the odds of me drawing out are like 1 to 500 because I only had 4 points.

Next, scarey thought I grew up shooting guns but haven't shot for years. The gun to kill an elk is big and has a lot of kick. It leaves bruises on Codys shoulder so I can only image how fast it is going to knock me on my butt. Cody and his Dad keep saying they are going to find me a gun with not as much kick. After that is accomplished I am going to have to target practice so I don't fall on my butt. Plus I have been the laziest person during this pregnancy so I am going to have to get into shape so I can hike all over the mountain to chase an elk. I at least have until September to get ready.

I am excited and scared to go. The thought of shooting something kind of freaks me out but I can do it. The Preston family is going to have a busy fall with hunting. Cody, his Dad, nephew Tanner, and brother-in-law all drew for general deer tags as well as my Elk tag. It is going to be FUN!

I had a plan, and I thought it was a really good plan. I would put my wife in for a big bull elk tag every year and while I was waiting for her to build up a lot of bonus points I would continue to put in for deer and antelope tags. Once she had a bunch of bonus points we would put in together and I wouldn't have to start from scratch with the whole bonus points deal. It had been working for about 4 years until unexpectadly Kara drew a big bull elk tag this year. So much for my great plan. Never mind my stupid plan my wife drew a flipp'in big bull elk tag!!! Looks like we will have a fun year trying to manage our three boys while planning the hunt of a lifetime. Luckily it is close to home so we should be able to really enjoy the time in the mountains yet be home quickly when needed. Nice Work Babe!!

Our New Arrival!

Colton Gregory has finally arrived. On May 29, 2008 we recieved a call at 5:30 am to be to labor and delivery by 6:30 am to be induced. Our new little guy came at 12:25 pm after somewhat of a hard delivery. He was 9 lbs. and 21 inches long. He has more hair than our other two boys had and it is dark. He was kissed on the chin by his grandpa Greg on the way down leaving him with a dipple just like grandpa. Colton doesn't look much like his brothers did. He has a little bit of something from each member of our family. We are glad you are here little guy and you bring much joy into our lives. I think your brothers will get used to having you here.
