THE HUNT

I am sure most of you have been wondering what happened with the big elk hunt and since it was the last thing posted over 10 months ago I thought I should update you a bit.
It went down like this... 5:30am Saturday September 13th the first day of the hunt we left the children with my wonderful mother-in-law and away we went to go hiking. As the sun was just peeking over the mountains Cody's uncle Jeff guide us into a six point. A pretty nice bull. We got all set up with the sticks to hold my gun. Mr. Six Points was butt to us. So patiently, Cody just kept telling me wait until he turns broadside. I listened to him but kept thinking I could just shoot him in the butt it would at least hurt him enough that maybe I could get off another shot but I didn't I just waited. Well, he never turns more than a second so I never get a shot off.
Cody decides to bugle to him to see if he will turn but instead it scares Mr. Six Points and he takes off running up the mountain. Mr. Six Points has a cow with him and is just pushing her up the mountain so that the other bull (my husband) doesn't come take her away. Mr. Six Points decides to stop and turn just perfect at the top of the mountain. The shot is 410 yards away. (It is a long shot but I will take the opportunity) Cody excitedly tells me to shoot. In my mind I am thinking can I really do this I have never fired a gun at something that is a live but I remember my cute hubby telling me hold your breath and pull the trigger slowly. That is what I did. The shot rings out, I am shaking like you can't believe as I am trying to reload the gun Mr. Six Points starts to run but I can't get my gun to fire again so low and behold Mr. Six Points takes off over the top and down the other side.
The fun hike comes next. After taking the shot we decide to go check to see if I by chance hit him. After over an hour hike we reach were Mr. Six Points was standing. Yep, there was even a little drop of blood so we followed the droplets down the mountain for quite sometime but never found Mr. Six Points. He is still running around the mountain happy not to have went home with me.

We went hunting on Sunday and Monday but had no luck. Cody couldn't miss school for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so we were planning on going back out Friday.
Tuesday I made salsa with my mom. I was having a little right sided pain but didn't think much of it. By Wednesday morning it really hurt but being the mom you don't have time to stop so I got the kids up and to school. I took the baby to my mom and headed to the dentist for crown prep and then to Albertson's after. My side hurt worse then my mouth. By the time I picked up Corban and got back to my mom's I was in PAIN (and denial I know what the pain most likely means). My mom had me call the doctor. I went in about 4:30pm the PA ran a blood test and pushed on my stomach. It hurt like the dickens. My white blood count was on the high end of normal. He sent me to the ER to be safe.
We arrived about 6pm. They got me in a room and an IV started. The doctor wasn't the nicest at first because the PA hadn't called in advance. The doctor pushed on my stomach and then decide to hit the bottom of my right foot. No tears had come until that point. I think that is the meanest thing but had to be done. After some pain medicine and CT scan it was confirmed I had and appendicitis. Yep into surgery I went. I was out of surgery by 11pm with this nice ....
INCISION

So in the end I didn't get to finish out my hunt. But that is okay in 10 years maybe I will draw another Elk tag. I can't but in for elk for 5 years but there is always deer, buffalo, moose. Yeah will see.
